September 3 we left Huntsville looking for the adventures in near-by state with my friends, international students from three different continents – Ryo from Japan, Memo from Peru and Christian from Congo. It is absolutely incredible that people from far-far countries met each other here in the US!
Our first destination was Cookeville, Tennessee. It is a small city with population of 28 000 people. What we were looking there for? My Russian and Turkmen friends are studying in Tennessee Tech – very big Technological University. Christian, Memo and Ryo dropped me with my friends and left to Nashville where we were going to meet next day. I was staying with my friends in Cookeville and we were remembering together those nice days which we spent in Moscow before the program started and amazing days in DC where had an amazing opportunity to meet all the UGRADers.
Early morning we left Cookeville and were looking forward to see the Country Music City of Nashville. One of Tennessee Tech students voluntarily drove us to Nashville. First our destination was Broadway – amazing big street at which you can feel the mix of country music and modern style. A lot of souvenir shops, figures of Indians and Elvis Presley, huge guitars and guitar picks were everywhere. At that time I even couldn’t imagine how this place could look like at the night. A lot of bars with live country music playing inside and Grand Ole Opry made atmosphere there unforgettable. When you breathe in this city you can feel music in your chest. We met my friends from UAH near the Parthenon – sweet place at which I can feel like I’m in ancient Greece. It also serves as an art gallery. We watched a lot of paintings of modern painters.
After Parthenon we were very hungry and went to small Mexican caf and tried burritos. I liked it very much – it looks for me like a fast food but very healthy and tasty.
I and my friend Tatiana adore cheesecakes – how we can just pass by the Cheesecake Factory. I was surprised that a lot of people were there; we needed to wait for the free table and spent some time in the nearby mall. Cheesecakes were absolutely delicious! I never tried tastier cheesecake.
And then it became a time to say good bye to my friends from Tennessee Tech. They needed to come back to Cookeville that night and I was staying Nashville. I was happy and sad at the same time. I was sad because I’ll not see them for a long time and was happy that I had such an amazing opportunity to spend this incredible day with them and I was hoping to see them again.
That night I stayed at Christian’s house – it is in Brentwood near Nashville. It was the first real American house which I’ve seen. It wasn’t only American – I could see a lot of African there. This kind of mixture made it so extraordinary.
Next day we needed to study – the best place for that is Nashville Public Library. We spent there a lot of time, each of us were studying their specific class. After library we met Christian’s friend and went to tennis court. One of the most amazing things I love here in the US, that we have a lot of opportunities for sports. Now I spend much more time than I did in Russia playing volleyball, tennis, ping pong, soccer and swimming.
Next morning we were leaving Nashville – the country music city. I will come back soon…
